Mooncake 2021 Packaging

Chinese communities all throughout the world commemorate the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival in Singapore.

It occurs on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest, according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Mooncakes are commonly given as gifts between businesses and their clients, employers and their employees, family and friends.

Thinking

How can we make the packaging better?

1) To uplift the existing design elements and packaging templates so that it elevates the overall experience for the user.

2) To improve on experience, requires using current printing method and technology to produce the intended look and feel.

3) The packaging design should look premium and needs to be cost efficient.

4) Consideration for adaptation in other regional markets.

Solution

1) From a flat surface, we enhanced the layer with a 3D surface using the effect achieved by laser cutting.

2) To improve on the experience, we retain the original opening and turn it onto an opening that function as door opening.

3) Texture with likeness of wood is introduced to the inner and visible area on the exterior surface of the packaging.
